Finance Manager
The list of Lucy’s responsibilities is impressive. From monthly reports and cash-flow management, to pay role duties and paying invoices, taking in tax and VAT returns along the way, if it concerns MTS Recruitment’s accounts and numbers, Lucy is in charge.
Before MTS, she worked in an Italian restaurant as a supervisor and studied bookkeeping and IT skills while she was there. “The restaurant business helped me develop organisational skills and fast-response customer service,” she explains. “I soon took on banking and accounting duties. It was a great way to learn how to prioritise and stay focused.”
Her first job after leaving the restaurant was with MTS. “I really fell on my feet with this one,” she says.
Her biggest bug bear is people not responding to her. “I’ll always tread gently,” she explains. “First, a soft email, then a phone call, then get some help from the sales team which has direct contact with the client. I always get there eventually.”
Perhaps predictably for a finance manager, Lucy’s greatest pleasure is when an invoice is paid. “It’s a completion,” she says. “It’s ‘job done and I can give myself a little pat on the back."
For leisure, Lucy loves walking, preferably in the country and preferably by the sea or a lake. She’s also a keen table tennis player and picks up her bats whenever she gets the chance.
“I’ve been here since 2008,” she points out. “I started as holiday relief and I’m still here. I think that says a lot about the quality of this company.”
